AI Voice Cloning Scam

As artificial intelligence (AI) technology continues to evolve, so do the tactics of scammers looking to exploit it. One of the latest scams is AI voice cloning.  Essentially with relatively short recording of a voice, scammers use AI to mimic that person's voice.

A scammer could pose as one of your family members or a co-worker (like your manager) and use the sound of their voice to try and trick you into moving money or giving out information.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) released a consumer alert regarding AI Voice Cloning;  click here to view the article.

When receiving a phone call requesting money or information, try to pause and ask yourself:

  • Is this normally how (family member or co-worker) communicates and behaves?
  • Am I being rushed to send money or provide my debit card now?
  • If you're not sure it's a friend or relative, you can hang up and call them back.
